Heavy Duty Plastic Storage Bins For Self-Storage Units: 3 Features That Make Packing Easier

Articles

Many people are finding that they have more belongings than they can fit in their house at one time. This trend has made the self-storage industry one of the fastest growing sectors in U.S. commercial real estate over the last 38 years. Rather than dumping all of your belongings in no order whatsoever into self-storage units, organize everything into heavy duty plastic storage bins for protection from the elements. There are various designs of plastic storage bins available, and here are 3 features that will make your life easier.

Keep a Lid On It

Not all self-storage units maintain a constant temperature and humidity, which can lead to the accumulation of moisture within the self-storage units. Depending on what you may be storing, the moisture accumulation can cause water damage. To protect all of your items from moisture and the elements, prevent pests and insects from burrowing into them and prevent dust from accumulating on top, keep a lid on the heavy duty plastic storage bins. Look for designs with airtight seals and lids that lock into place for optimal protection. Lids with a depressor seal are the best.

Some of the lids will also have locks on them, so that even if burglars enter your storage unit, they won't be able to easily go through your personal items and belongings. Some experts even recommend wrapping the outside of the container with duct tape for an even tighter seal.

Wheels for Easy Accessibility

Heavy duty plastic storage bins are heavy. For many seniors and those with disabilities, moving the heavy duty plastic storage bins from one location to another can be a hassle. To make your job a lot easier and to prevent accidentally sustaining any injuries, look for bins that have wheels underneath. The wheels will make pulling or pushing the bins a lot easier. Don't skimp out on quality, and look for wheels that are made from rubber and not plastic. Some bins come with 4 wheels while others come with 2, and can be tilted when moved. Both designs possess unique advantages over one another. You should also look for bins that come with a handle for easy accessibility.

Designs with the Ability to Stack

Depending on the amount of heavy duty plastic storage bins that you need, storing them all in self-storage units can take up a lot of space. Storage bins that incorporate designs that allow for stacking will help free up a lot of space, make sure that you make good use of each inch of storage space that you are paying for, and will also help you organize your bins, so that you can easily find them later on.

Make sure that you stack the storage bins containing heavier items on the bottom and the ones containing lighter items on the top to prevent them from falling over and causing any injuries. In addition, it is important to keep fragile items closer to the bottom, so that they have less of a chance of becoming damaged when handled.

Conclusion

Label all of the heavy duty plastic storage bins before placing them in the self-storage units, and be detailed. Although it may seem like a hassle now, it will help you save a lot of time in the future looking through each bin in order to find what you're looking for. You should even consider printing off a list of items that will be stored in each bin and taping it to the side of the bins that they are stored in, so that there are no mistakes in what items are stored in which bins.

As you can, plastic storage bins are great option to use when packing your belongings for a storage unit. You can find quality bins from retailers like Quantum Storage.

Storage Units Are a Wonderful Thing

What do you do when you have belongings you don’t want to get rid of, but have no room for? Store them is what you do! My name is Marcy. I never thought having a storage unit would be something I’d be excited about, but I am. This may sound rather odd, but I actually enjoy puttering around in my storage unit. I like to go look at some of my old books, move things around, rearrange stuff, and even visit the people who work there. I was at a loss when I first made the decision to rent a storage unit for my “overflow” stuff. I didn't know anything about the unit sizes, how to pack things, or how to arrange them in the unit. The storage facility helped me with brochures and advice, they are wonderful. I’m going to share some of the tips I’ve learned with you.
